As part of the EBGE Awards, we hosted a presentation on the creative process behind the visual identity of the 2026 Athens Epidaurus Festival by Polkadot Design.
From the artistic director Michail Marmarinos’ brief “attractive nothingness” to the calligraphic gesture of Nearchos Daskas, who captured the intensity of theatre on paper with a brushstroke.
The bitter, luminous yellow of Vibrant Arsenic Gmund.
The Yves Klein blue of Curious Matter Blue, infused with potato starch that you can actually feel when you touch it.

The 2026 visual identity of the Athens Epidaurus Festival is expressed through the calligraphic work of Nearchos Daskas, whose gestures leave traces on paper, evoking the theatre’s orchestra, the resonance of sound, and the immersive nature of the live experience. The bold colour palette blue, yellow, black, and white, creates strong contrasts and enhances the dramatic quality of the composition, while Curious Matter Adiron Blue 270g adds materiality, depth, and character. The paper itself becomes an integral part of the posters’ identity, highlighting both colour and the gestural quality of the design.
Far from cliché visual references to antiquity, the Festival’s new visual identity is rooted in colour, gesture, and typography. The theatre’s cavea appears as a trace, while the coated Arctic Volume 150g paper enhances the intensity and luminosity of the colours, including the Festival Director’s “bitter brilliant yellow.
